Export/Import DHCP server (from Win2003 to Win2008)


1)      On the Windows 2003 DHCP server

a.      Run the following command to export all scopes on current DHCP server

netsh dhcp server export C:\dhcpdatabase.dat all

b.       Copy the C:\dhcpdatabase.dat file to the new Windows 2008 server c:\dhcpdatabase.dat

2)      On the Windows 2008 Server

a.       Logon as an Administrator

c.       Install the DHCP server Role

d.      Delete the existing DHCP.mdb file

ii.      Stop the DHCP service

  1. Delete the DHCP.mdb file from its folder.

2.      Start the DHCP service ( A new DHCP database will be created).

e.       Run the following command to import the configuration.

netsh dhcp server import c:\dhcpdatabase.dat > c:\errors.txt

Check the c:\errors.txt file for possible errors if any.  Restart DHCP service.
